Goals of the Afterschool and Summer Robotics and Robotics-Math Programs

  • Engage students in hands-on computer science and robotics

  • Provide opportunities for accelerated and/or intervention learning in math with real-world problems

  • Boost students’ interest and confidence in math and STEM fields

  • Nurture students’ creativity and imagination by creating and programming their own robotic systems

  • Enhance students’ teamwork and communication skills through collaborative robotics projects

  • Prepare students to participate in math-focused level-playing-field RoboPlay Competitions

Barobo’s Robotics and Robotics-Math Programs for TK-12 after-school and summer programs take the planning and guesswork out of creating an effective program for expanded learning.

  • The Robotics Program provides teachers with a flexible curriculum that introduces students to computer science foundations, scaffolds into engaging robotics applications, and provides avenues for student expression and creativity through project based learning. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning that is integrated with coding, engineering, science, art, and music via robotics.

  • The Robotics-Math Program empowers students for accelerated and/or catch-up math learning through robotics projects and the solution of real-world problems using key math concepts for their grade levels, and at the same time provides students with recreational and teamwork opportunities. The curriculum includes both pre and post tests in each unit to assess student math skills and the academic progress from the beginning to the end of each unit.

  • The programs can also serve as preparation for a school or district-sponsored end-of-year RoboPlay Competition.

The Barobo Robotics and Robotics-Math Programs can be offered all year long and provide pathways for summer camps, after-school extracurriculars, fundraisers, open houses, and school showcases. The programs are designed to be hosted by our K-12 partners with instructors from their staff or local college students. No experience is required for either instructors or students. The programs are supported by Barobo’s extensive Video Library and Instructor’s Guide, as well as optional professional development workshops.

The Robotics curriculum is offered in five grade bands:

  1. Robotics: Grades TK-K

  2. Robotics: Grades 1-2

  3. Robotics: Grades 3-5

  4. Robotics: Grades 6-8

  5. Robotics: Grades 9-12

Additional information:

  • Participants: TK-K, 1-2nd, 3-5th, 6-8th, and 9-12th grade students.

  • Number of Students: Up to 30 students for each session.

  • Curricula: Each curriculum consists of a 40-hour instruction time.

  • Duration: At the discretion of the afterschool and summer program organizer: 1-week (8 hours per day), 2-week (4 hours per day), 4-week (2 hours per week), or 8-week (1 hour per day).

  • Time and Location: Decided by the program organizer.

  • Instructors: K-12 teachers and para-educators within the district and county, and/or college students at local colleges and universities.

  • Training for Instructors: Regularly scheduled professional development sessions (four two-hour sessions) are available to prepare instructors to conduct the program. If there is a large cohort of instructors from the same school district, a tailored PD can be arranged. No prior coding and robotics experience is needed.

  • Assistant Coaches: Middle and high school students may serve as assistant coaches. Each session is encouraged to have two assistant coaches with prior Robotics experience  for peer-mentoring.
